The
Premieres of Diversity project is an Erasmus+ Youth project coordinated by the Italian association
Valida, in partnership with organizations based in France, Belgium, Austria, Greece, and Malta. It aims to support groups of young people in exploring, documenting, and promoting the culture of the Ethiopian diaspora in their respective regions.
The project is based on the idea that diasporas contribute fully to Europe’s cultural richness, but that their stories, traditions, and memories often remain largely invisible. Through encounters with local communities, young people will be invited to collect testimonies, photographs, memories, and family archives in order to better understand diasporic identities and the connections between memory, culture, and a sense of belonging.
This initiative will result in the creation of a
cultural calendar of the Ethiopian diaspora and a
digital exhibition of collective memory. The young people will also receive training in media and audiovisual production to transform their research into interviews, filmed portraits, short documentaries, and digital content.
Premieres of Diversity seeks to give greater visibility to the voices and stories of Ethiopian diasporas in Europe. The project thus develops young people’s intercultural, social, and creative skills, while offering a transferable method for highlighting other diasporas and strengthening dialogue between communities.
