The project “Comic Art Europe” is a pilot project bringing together five European organisations representing links in the comics value chain: a higher education institution, festivals, a publishing house, a museum. It aims to strengthen the comics sector in Europe by experimenting with collaborative working methods. It defends the transnational mobility of works, operators and artists as a tool for changing scale. It prefigures a European comic book community capable of positioning authors and organisations at European level and thus consolidating the employability of the actors in the chain in the face of the American and Japanese giants.

The project will experiment with professional training actions (summer camp and residency courses), support for creation (grants and residencies), dissemination of results in Europe and outside Europe (European comic book catalogue, large-scale distribution channels) and mediation around the power of comic books (in particular through comic book literacy workshops).

“Comic Art Europe” will enable its organisers to experiment with new ways of working together internally and across sectors, thus strengthening their skills.

The project partners, complementary and united by a field of common values, constitute the embryo of a future network capable of federating the sector at the European level. This network will develop the capacities of its members, represent the sector at international trade fairs and markets, and consolidate a common culture built throughout this experimental project.
